Clark County, Washington got its name from the Lewis and Clark expedition which passed through the area in the early 1800's. Lewis County, Washington also got its name from the expedition. However, Lewis County's name was originally Vancouver County, which only Vancouver the city remains with that that name now. Vancouver County at one time stretched north past the U.S border.
